THE TWELVE MONTH VISIT

The One Year Visit

Happy Birthday Baby!

The first year visit is a big moment! Here’s what’s on the agenda to mark the event. We will:

  • Take your child’s height, weight and head circumference.
  • Give the first MMR and first Varicella vaccines. Read about benefits and potential side effects here.
  • Conduct screening for Lead and Hemoglobin level in blood, as recommended by the AAP.

GUIDANCE

Development: Your one-year old will be able to get from lying down to sitting and may even pull themselves up to a standing position. They can now combines syllables and babble, (“gagaga”). Your tot might also learn to clap and grasp small objects between their thumb and pointer finger.

Food department: By now, your baby should be enjoying the same food you do, and quite a lot of it. Well, here’s the bad news, it’s not going to stay that way. Like all kids, yours will start getting picky, sometimes just for the sheer joy of watching your face when they clamp their mouth shut in response to the meal you lovingly prepared for them.

What you do in response to this rebellion will determine what kind of eater your baby will become in childhood. So, at this visit we will give you tips to handle and overcome the picky phase. Please don’t tell your own mother about our tips, as she may not approve. Read on…

Frustration Management: Not yours—your baby’s. Yes, this is the age where kids learn to cope with frustration. Remember that five-year-old throwing himself on the supermarket floor the other day? That could be your kid if you don’t handle this stage appropriately. We will guide you on how to help your little one attain coping skills. Our methods may surprise you. Read on…
